Game Mechanics: Loss Aversion

This is a game mechanic that is mostly introduced in games where you need to pay for a subscription at some point, or where a game releases expansion packs every now and then to add new things into the game.

The image above shows World of Warcraft where the first ever expansion has been released of The Burning Crusade. Until you buy this update you can’t level up to level 70 and explore new things. This mechanic can also be seen as doing something in order to avoid ‘punishment’ and obtaining positive aspects and features for the game.
